It has d-rings and a strobe and whistle. One wears it when on deck alone, tethered when in bad seas, when one goes forward to clear the sheets (lines or ropes for those who dont sail) or when on watch and leaving the cockpit. They call it a boom for a reason, it will knock you out and make that sound as you fall (followed by splash) Self inflating pfd;s arent huge and arent hot, they will keep your face out of the water if you are unconscious and you wear them.
