Since your April 12 post, I have tried this 2-minute practice, PO. Although, occasions of meditation have always provided an "oasis", I seriously lacked discipline - strange how we choose the whirling "carousel" over peace-filled moments. (I wonder what that's about?) Finding 2 minutes during the day is doable - and I find myself content to sit - even stretching that time out as well. The rewards are very special. Thank you for encouraging the will...and offering a way. Duncan.

This is actually a great dilemma for me personally. I see the teachings of the Buddha every day in most of the things I do. Both Kayaking and non-kayaking. At the same time I don't won't to be 'the evangelist' that I hate when I am confronted by it in day to day life. I try and keep the Buddhist teachings here, and mostly focused on how it relates to kayaking. As I am putting finishing touches on 'the paddling otaku book' there is more Buddhism there than even here on the blog. It is something I am aware of.

Excellent article. We discovered the same thing and it was one of the reasons we set up adventurekayaking.org. The community really needs a centralized repository of reviews, etc.

So often in the past, when we were able to find reviews for gear we were interested in, none of it is kayaking or paddling specific and often times that stuff really matters! How well did that tent perform day in and day out in really wet weather camping on the beaches of BC? How durable were those dry bags and did they maintain at least some level of flexibility in order to get them into hatches easily? Was the ferrule wonky on that paddle or did it feel like a one piece with little to no play?

If you have any gear that you want to do a review for, we are happy to post it up. We don't have any formalized submission requirements, but the more thoughtful and in-depth the article, the better. Media rich is best. You would be given full credit as the author of the article. As long as it is somehow related and tied back to how you use it in your paddling adventures/excursions we are happy to post it.

I saw you started following us on twitter and decided to take a look at your blog. We chose ours for an expedition down the Yukon River during high water season after much evaluation chose the 15.5. From a hull design perspective it is quite a bit different, but clearly from a materials perspective is not. We too noticed the scratches right away from things like slipping a paddle under a bungie, and the first ones are definitely the worst.

We were loaded up pretty heavy in both yaks since we planned for 16 days full unsupported and since we flew in and were flying out at a different location had to pack all of our gear including bear barrels and luggage into the kayaks. I like a clean deck and low center of gravity, lol. We too noticed a real tendency to swing about and try and broach. The rudder helped mitigate this quite a bit, but it was still very noticeable and took a lot of work in order to keep her straight.

You don't happen to be utilizing the molded compass mount by chance? If so, how was the install?

PO, you are soooo on the right track with your iBook especially with HD video! Most of the books I purchase are for my e-Reader and the only time I purchase a good old fashioned :-) hard cover is if it has instructional pictures or diagrams. If it is just verbiage.... I want it digital.

Funny... I still love a great magazine to thumb through and read cover to cover. The time will come when I make the change to a digital format but I fear that will come out of necessity when it just isn't cost effective for publishers to produce a physical magazine.

Great read! Can't wait for your iBook release.
